How to Prepare for a Renovation Estimate

The right photos, a few measurements and clear priorities help you get an accurate, comparable estimate faster. Here’s a simple checklist.

How to Prepare for a Renovation Estimate

A clear estimate starts with clear information. A little preparation before you contact contractors will save time and make quotes easier to compare.

1. Write down what you want to achieve

List the rooms or areas involved and what bothers you today — cracked tile, worn floors, a dated exterior. Note anything that is a must-have versus a nice-to-have.

2. Take helpful photos

  • One wide photo of each area from the doorway
  • Close-ups of any damage, cracks or stains
  • Photos of transitions — where floors meet, where walls meet ceilings

3. Add rough measurements

Room length and width or approximate square footage is enough to start. We confirm exact measurements during the site visit.

4. Think about timing and access

Tell us your ideal start date, any deadlines, and practical details such as parking, pets or working hours in a commercial space.

5. Ask what is included

A good estimate lists preparation, materials, clean-up and exclusions. If two quotes look very different, compare these lines first.
